Massage School The Massage School opened 16 years ago with a simple idea: Wouldn't it be great to build a massage school that taught modern massage technique, with a hands-on approach to learning, at an affordable price, and with a simple, practical, and flexible schedule? In 2001, we opened as The Amherst School of Massage Therapy in Amherst Massachusetts. In 2005, we moved to our current location in the historic Memorial Hall of Easthampton Massachusetts. In September of 2013 we opened our Boston branch of the school at 63 Wareham St., in the South End.
Services
Benefit from a Student Massage in one of our student clinics, located in Easthampton, Boston, and St. Paul. The clinic allows us to provide this exceptional education to our students at one of the lowest tuitions in the country. The clinic gives our students the practice and experience that help our graduates excel in the field.
Class sizes are limited, apply now for best chance of admission. The Massage School program in Massachusetts emphasizes hands-on learning, while adhering to the guidelines established by the Massachusetts State Board of Massage Therapy. We designed our program to produce massage therapists with excellent technical skills.
It's been over 5 years since I attended The Massage School, and 4 years since being licensed as a massage therapist, yet I still think highly of these first steps of my journey into professionally practicing and studying the healing arts. Many have asked me what massage school was like, so I am writing this to share my experiences.
If you want to make an appointment in our student clinic, please call the school directly, and leave a message, the clinic will not receive any emails. Appointments in the student clinic can only be booked by calling the school and leaving a message. The clinics will not receive this email contact.

I was damaged in this place. I ended up with a deep gash on my back, the student that did it knew she did it and didn't make herself accountable for what she did.

I totally agree with the positive comments below. The administrative staff is professional, accommodating and personable, as are the students. Always a special treat.

I had Sophie who gave an excellent full body massage! And for $40 (before tip) for an hour, the price is unbeatable. There's also free street parking right along the street which was convenient.

Great service! Worked wonders on my hips. You'll likely get a voicemail when you call but they're great at calling you back!

Great massages at great prices. Definitely can't beat that! Comfortable environment each batch of students are different. I have been blessed to have really good students. The overall services are great. From administrator pleasant and warm greeting to the goodbye. Very professional for a school. I do really like it there and miss the services

For a $35 massage (plus a tip! :)), I would definitely come back. I had Rachel, who was super sweet and made sure I was comfortable, especially since it was my first time there. Like other reviewers said, it takes place in a room with other people. I probably would've been uncomfortable but she did a great job of keeping me properly covered the whole time. The booking process was relatively easy - left a voicemail with my preference for date and time and got a call back the next day.

On 7/2 my friends and I booked a massage and were very disappointed with the service we received. I was unable to get my massage that day because I was stuck in typical Boston traffic. My friends went any way and asked if they could get a refund for my massage-the least they could say was "No" but they asked just to be sure. The man at the front desk was very rude and unprofessional and yelled at my friends.

He said we had "wasted a student's credit." I'm sure cancellations happen all the time, but he was unprofessional to say the least. It's disappointing that the front desk person didn't know how to be respectful and approachable. Take your money and time elsewhere.

Boston (South end) -- it was great! Yes it is a community concept (all the massage tables are in a room), but that is OK. I had a great massage--asked if pressure was good throughout and it is nice because you are able to give the students feedback! Great stuff and good learning at a good price! I loved Miranda. I'll be back for sure!

I heard about these massages from a coworker and figured I'd try it out. I left a voicemail and they called me back a day later and told me what time slots were available for the days I specified and from there I booked an appointment. I had Rachel, who was so sweet and made sure I was comfortable the entire time, especially since it was my first time getting a real full-body massage.

She made sure I was properly covered by the sheet the entire time, which made me feel comfortable since you get the massage in a room with everyone else. For $35, it was a great experience and I'll definitely be back. (And don't forget to tip!)

I had a very negative experience at the Massage School of Boston this last time. A few months ago, I had a negative experience with a student who caused me significant discomfort. I shared this with the man at the front desk, and he explained that he could not guarantee any particular student to a client. This past time that I went, I was assigned to this same student, and I asked to have another student.

Both him and the student became upset, but he allowed me to have another student for my massage. As I was leaving, I apologized for the situation and asked if I could have the woman's name so I could ask not to have her when booking my future appointments. The man at the front desk said that what I did was very negative and that he was hesitant to ever book me again. It would've been much more reasonable for him to work with me rather than close the door in my face like that. Very poor customer service.

If you like getting a good massage for an affordable price in Boston, this is the place. It's a school so it's not fancy. The appointment slots are limited and you have to be diligent and promptly reply to calls/VM from the school when they call back. Everyone gets massage in the same room so if you're not comfortable sharing space with strangers maybe this place won't work. I loved my massage. Excellent service but don't expect spa service from a learning school.

The bottom line is that you're going to get an hour massage for $30. This is a bargain as this will typically cost you $85+. From my experience, and being a Med student, it's all the same. Granted this is a school, and the therapists are training, but you still are going to have an experienced person manipulate your body. The whole point of massage is to get you into labored breathing, this activates your vagus nerve and reduces your cortisol levels. At the $30 price point, clients can incorporate good massages in their lives leading to greater well being and reduced stress.

Definitely worth the $30 price for an hour massage. No private room but worth it if you don't mind. A little annoying / difficult to book given the phone tag, but the guy who does it is super friendly and accommodating and does his best to get back to you quickly.

This was my first time getting a massage, and I had a great experience! I called today and they had multiple times available in the afternoon and evening. They were very nice on the phone and professional in person. Because it's a school, you're in a dark room with 15-20 other people. If you're shy about wearing just a sheet in front of other people, this might not be the best option for you.

I didn't find it uncomfortable, and the room and music was really relaxing. The masseuse was very professional and did a great job. I had a lot of tension in my muscles, and I feel so so relaxed now. $30 for an hour long, full-body massage was a great deal. I'll definitely be coming back!

I had an appointment scheduled for today, and I came down with a cold yesterday. I was hoping to feel better, and started to, but toward the end of the day I started feeling sick again. I understood the 24 hour cancellation policy, but when it was explained to me I was never told that I would need to pay if I cancelled later than that. I was leaving a message, and the man picked up the phone and I told him that I was ill and needed to cancel, and that I was sorry it was so last minute.

He immediately became frustrated and rude, saying things like "you were sick yesterday and you are calling today at 2:30pm on the day of your appointment? Next time you need to call the day you start to get sick." He then proceeded to tell me that I owed $30.00. I explained that I wasn't aware I would owe the price, and that if that was the case I would come anyway.

He then told me that I was forbidden to come to the clinic if I was sick. I wanted to reschedule, and told him that I was sorry and didn't realize it would be such a big deal and since it seemed to be, and that I would come for my appointment. He repeatedly told me I was not allowed in the clinic if I was sick, then told me he would cancel the appointment, and that "I was not to call the clinic again." I understand that cancelling last minute is frustrating, and I feel badly that I was doing that.

Especially because that might deprive a student of an experience. However, I was sick, and I wasn't sure how things would turn out. I was so shocked by how rude this man was, and how he turned me away for life because I needed to reschedule due to illness. I was hoping to feel better today, and thought I was, but then things started going downhill later in the day and I felt it best to go home. This is not how you treat people in customer service. I have never been so offended.

I went there 3 times- 2 bad massages and 1 really good one. @$30+$10 (tip) per massage, i spent $120 for 3 massages, an hour long each. A massage with Song left me with a hurting neck immediately after the massage. The Massage School does not allow you to book the same student more than 3 times. Of those 3 times if the student you booked has to leave then theyll find you someone else who may be horrible.

Yes we went there because it was a "deal" but if its only a win win situation for the massage school and they don't allow to schedule with particular students then it ends up being a really bad deal and a low quality experience. I will not go there again.

Awesome place. Unbeatable price for professional quality. Should mention that the massage is given in an open (dimly lit) room with lots of other people - but that's not a problem at all because all I ask for is a good massage. Would highly highly recommend!

Great place for a cheap massage. Therapists-in-training vary in expertise but are good for the most part. My only real complaint is that they really need to have water available. Even if it's just supplying cups in the bathroom, it's important to drink water after a massage and if you have to drive or walk home without drinking water after a massage, the toxins released by the massage won't be flushed out and will be hard on the kidneys. I know you can't put in a water fountain, but cups in the bathroom or water for sale would make sense at a massage place.

4 stars b/c it is affordable. I have good experiences and really bad ones too. Really depends on who you get. I am not sure if you can request, but my friend told me she had requested for a particular therapist before

$30 massages right in the heart of the city? You can't beat it. Some of the student massages I've gotten here are easily much better than actual massage studio massages I've paid much more for.

The process for booking a reservation was easier than I expected. Leave a voicemail and you will get a call right back. Be prepared to share the areas that you would like your massage therapist to focus on and the amount of pressure. No-frills, but just enough. Jeff was thoughtful, thorough and provided tips on the back end. I would definitely return on my next trip to town.

A wonderful hidden surprise in the South End of Boston! I heard about the Massage School's student clinic from a co-worker and finally as able to go yesterday. For a 1 hour full body massage, you can't beat the price of $30. My student masseuse was very nice and was able to increase her massage pressure when I told her my feedback. She was great at draping the sheet to make sure I was always covered throughout the massage.

My favorite part was that the massage table was heated which is great in the winter time! The big massage room was dark with relaxing music playing which really helped me relax. I will definitely be back in the future.

$30 for an hour massage? I can now afford to incorporate massage into my well-being routine sans financial guilt! I have had really amazing experiences here and love the space. Its a low-lit room with many tables and you are paired with a student before entering the space. You will be in a room with others getting massages as well, but there is NOT a teacher at the front of the room etc.

You are given a sheet and disrobe in a private changing stall. It is quiet and relaxing and I am grateful for this resource in Boston. Please note, that these -are students- and that if you have serious health issues, that you should be seeing a licensed body work therapist. If you are in general good physical and mental health, you still need to go in with an open mind and heart to your student and speak up if something isn't working for you. It's a good exercise for your boundaries plus giving the student a quite literally, hands on experience of interacting with all sorts of bodies and preferences.

To protect the integrity of the students' practice, as well as your own health, you have to be the one to take the responsibility of working with a student for a massage. Also the music is always amazing and I am very impressed with nearly all of the students I've worked with. Also, Scott usually works the desk and he's hilarious. Nothing but gold here, folks!

This place is a hidden gem. I come whenever I can to unwind. There are some seriously good hands here that rival the best professional massages I've had. Not all the students are at that level, so you might have to try a few times before finding someone you really like. But at $30 it's affordable enough to try someone else if you don't like your first therapist. Having said that, I've never had a bad massage here and wager you won't either.

To get an appointment, call and leave a message. Don't bother coming if you are or have recently been sick or injured. I've seen people turned away, so you are forewarned. The best students here are able to work on specific problems you're having and dissolve all your knots. Worst case scenario, you get a nice relaxation massage. I highly recommend giving them a try.

Amazing work. I love this place. Its very affordable and effective. The only downside is students graduate and not everyone is as good. I work recommend talk to the coordinator about pressure and stuff.

I would go back and try again. For the price this massage was decent. This type of place totally depends on the student that you get. Warning: if you are shy you probably don't want to go to this place though. You are brought into a fitting room like stall, given a basket to place your clothes in, and given a sheet to wrap up in. You walk through a warehouse like room and lay down on a table, the student moves the sheet to cover you on the table, and your massage begins. Once the massage is over you will be brought back to the stall to change. Overall it was what I paid for and I would definitely go again.

I was feeling stressed and part of self care is stress relief. Well The Massage School was ideal. An ideal location, ideal pricing, semi-ideal atmosphere but it works, great professional massage therapists.

I had a wonderful massage here, for only$30. The appointment process was easy. The location was much easier to find, than I had anticipated. And the employees were mellow, kind and respectful. Best of all they are Deaf-friendly! My message therapist even knew ASL! I look forward to returning
