I had a persistent knot between my shoulder blades that was troubling me for more than a month. After having a massage elsewhere that was relaxing but did nothing to lessen the soreness, I booked an early morning massage with Dave. He immediately identified the issue areas and worked on them over the course of an hour. He used precisely the right amount of pressure and my back, neck, and shoulders felt remarkably better afterwards.
I have had maybe a hundred massages over the course of my life and maybe a quarter of them were booked to address a specific issue or injury. While others were more relaxing, Dave's was actually effective. I'll definitely be booking again in the future.

David is excellent and has helped me with my lower back pain so much! I feel he has a thorough understanding of anatomy and injury, and I got so much relief from my recent session with him that I couldn't believe it! Online booking, payment, and tipping and easy, inexpensive parking make Massagevisits super easy.

UPDATE 2019-01-29: Two things have happened that have made me decide to update this review and increase my rating. First, I noticed a few days after I posted the original review that my money had been refunded. I appreciated it at the time, and moved on. Second, I just got a call from the Laura, David's wife and (I believe) co-owner of the company.
She was extremely and, I am certain, sincerely apologetic about my experience. She explained to me that David had had a migraine that day, hadn't read the sheet I filled out, and just really wasn't present for the massage. They are both ashamed of my experience, and Laura asked if there was anything they could do to make it up to me. She suggested my coming in for another massage, but acknowledged right up front that it might be very awkward and uncomfortable for me (which I believe shows the right kind of awareness of people that a good massage therapist should have).
I politely turned down the offer. I get migraines, so I understand what David was going through. I wish he had simply told me what was going on and offered to reschedule instead of pushing through. If he had, I think my experience would have been much better. But he didn't, so to be honest to myself, I can't simply take down my review. But also to be honest to myself, I wanted to post this update, and I've decided to add this update, and I'm increasing my rating.
The massage itself was still 1 star, but the care Laura took in contacting me, and her clear concern about my experience gives them 4 1/2 stars for professionalism and the right approach to massage therapy (5 stars minus 1/2 for David not offering to reschedule). Averaging that and rounding up, I'm changing my rating to a 3. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Worst massage I've ever had.
It was by David, who I think is one of the owners. When I got there, I filled out a sheet saying what kind of massage I wanted (I chose Relaxation and Deep Tissue/Pain Relief) and where my areas of discomfort were (feet, knees, hips, elbows, neck). What I expected was that the massage therapist would ask me about those areas - what to do with them, etc.
That's what has happened at every other massage I've ever had. Then they'd adapt the basic pattern I've seen at every other massage, and I'd have a nice relaxing massage with attention to the parts that really hurt. Nope. I got on the table and he started in on my back. No questions, just some poking and prodding, and then worked on the back. For almost the entire hour.
He gave cursory attention to my neck, spent a minute or so on each arm, and then back to the back. Finally, he went down to my feet and poked half-heartedly at them for a couple of minutes each. Then he came back up to my back for a few minutes, quietly said "ok" and left the room. Just "ok". Not the usual "ok, we're done. Take your time, when you're ready, come out." Just. "ok". I am now more tense than when I went in. Worst massage ever.

Hi. I'm a former massage therapist who was in need of some serious back-work. I chose MV bc of reviews and I was far from disappointed. Dave is an experienced professional and very pleasant. Assessed my problems and released my chronic back pain. I am so grateful for the superb work and relief. I will be a returning client to M V.

I had the pleasure of a massage on a recent visit to the area - after a strong recommendation from my sister. Loved it! David worked on one area of my back at a time, with a good pressure, then moved on to shoulders and legs, giving me a full hour. It felt really restorative, not only for muscles but also for circulation. I'll go again next time I'm in Maynard.

David is a great masseur. He uses a deep tissue technique and focuses on problem areas until their better as opposed to going through the same motions and moving on. I always feel better (and a little light headed) when he is done. He offers $10 off your first visit which is a great deal. He is also friendly to talk to. It is very easy to make an appointment with him because he not only responds to e-mails but you can also book appointments via text message.
I have seen David twice now and have every intention of returning soon. While he doesn't advertise prenatal massage (he doesn't currently have the special pregnancy table) he has certainly helped a lot with the aches and pains of my second pregnancy (we just use extra pillows to compensate for the belly). I will say he has helped more than the prenatal massage place I went to in Boston for my first pregnancy who also charged a lot more.
One thing to note is that he does not accept credit cards. But there is both a Bank of America and a Citizens Bank down the street. His Services: Acupressure Onsite Chair Massage Connective Tissue Deep Tissue Injury/Rehab Myofascial Release Postural Neuromuscular Relaxation Reflexology Sports Therapy Swedish Trigger Points
