By touching a body, we touch every event it has experienced. For a few brief moments we hold all of a client's stories in our hands. We witness someone's experience of their own flesh, through some of the most powerful means possible: the contact of our hands, the acceptance of the body without judgment, and the occasional listening ear. With these gestures we reach across the isolation of the human experience and hold another person's legend. In massage therapy, we show up and ask, in so many ways, what it is like to be another human being.

Our teaching team is enthusiastic, talented, and dedicated to the practice of oncology massage therapy. Each brings unique gifts to the classroom, but they work as a team and share many common qualities: They are approachable and friendly; they have years of clinical experience; they are thoughtful, unassuming leaders.
Drawing on the work of Gayle MacDonald and Dawn Nelson, Tracy Walton developed a 5-level massage therapy pressure scale for use in massage therapy, oncology massage therapy, and hospital-based massage therapy. It is a great tool for communicating with medical care providers and clients about massage pressure.
Some people think regular contact with cancer and pain and disease would be especially hard. Some days are more challenging than others, but I think lots of things that humans do are hard, and most are harder than what I do. Other people's words have sustained me during long seasons of my own confusion and pain, and they have brought me great joy.
